until further notice

Statement

In 'until further notice,' I've intentionally crafted an installation that invites you to occupy the driver's seat, offering a firsthand glimpse into my daily experiences. I want you to feel like an active participant, seamlessly joining me in the daily solitude, occasional loneliness, and complete absurdity of a relentless three-hour commute amidst an ongoing custody battle.

I collect data to comprehend and categorize these challenging experiences. The work serves as a voice amid feelings of isolation and the weight of overlooked matriarchal labor communicated through dark humor and blunt responses. I offer a contextual narrative for empathetic listeners.

Vibrant tufted letters align with a party theme and bear derogatory phrases hurled at me during the custody battle. Tufting these phrases with a tufting gun became a therapeutic resistance. This transformed the negativity into a colorful act of self-expression and resilience.

Surrounding the central car seat are deliberately scattered fragments of my commute—receipts, books, clothes, and takeout containers. These elements mirror the chaos of my daily commute. Balloons stand as markers of enduring struggle, mirroring the persistence of the commute long after the end of the custody battle.

This construct extends an invitation for you to inhabit the gallery space, providing an opportunity to vicariously share in the complexities of my reality. 'until further notice' invites you to witness and immerse yourself in the multifaceted layers of my existence.
